According to Sport, Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong has picked Barcelona as his next club and has agreed a deal to move there next summer. All that is now left for the Catalans to do is agree a transfer fee to be paid, and they are hoping that the player’s decision to move would be a boost in their attempt to make it as low as possible.
The Spanish outlet claims that the two clubs had an agreement in place which allowed Barcelona to swoop in for de Jong in August of 2019, providing the midfielder chooses them. That condition has now apparently been met, and de Jong is set to become a Barca player after this season ends.
Apart from La Liga title holders, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have all been credited with strong interest in the 21-year-old, but their hopes will now be dashed with de Jong obviously keen on being a part or Barcelona’s project of midfield revitalization.
