De Laurentiis denies star approaches

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis said he has not received any offers for stars Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi or Edinson Cavani.

The attacking trio have been on fire recently, leading the San Paolo outfit to the Champions League quarter-finals, and have been linked with moves to some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

De Laurentiis said Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti had enquired about Hamsik in the past, but made it clear there have been no recent bids.

“Lavezzi, Hamsik and Cavani? I cannot give them away and no-one has asked about them officially,” De Laurentiis told RMC.

“The only one who has is Moratti, a few years ago he asked for Hamsik, but I told him we had only just arrived in Serie A and were not prepared to let a major player go.

“At Paris Saint-Germain there is a coach who follows our players and this is great, but even though newspapers and televisions are discussing bids for Lavezzi, Hamsik and Cavani every day, I have not had any offers beyond that from Moratti.

“I cannot give Cavani, Lavezzi or Hamsik away also because to settle in Italy it takes a player at least a year.

“We have bought (Eduardo) Vargas in the winter market from South America and he is expected to become the great revelation of the coming year. He has done a lot in South America, so we’ll see next year if he explodes.”

Fourth-placed Napoli face Catania, who are eighth, in Serie A on Sunday.
