Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax has agreed personal terms with Juventus, according to Sky’s Italian branch.
The in-demand 19-year-old defender was linked with Barcelona as it was strongly expected he would follow in the footsteps of Frenkie de Jong towards the Camp Nou, and interest was reported from the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and most recently, Real Madrid. However, the report he had chosen Juventus as his next destination eventually broke out.
It appears that the Netherlands international will sign a five-year contract with the Serie A champions and be earning €12 million per season. A buyout clause is set to be included, set at €150 million. It is now up to Juventus to reach an agreement with Ajax over the amount of the transfer fee.
PSG, meanwhile, remain in the running and are maintaining contact with the Eredivisie champions, still hopeful they may yet snatch de Ligt for themselves as they look for a long-term successor for captain Thiago Silva.
