According to reports in Spain, Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax has turned down the offer put on his table by Barcelona.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked with the Catalan club throughout the season in which he starred for Ajax both domestically and in their run to the Champions League semifinal, though there was mention of other suitors as well. Recently, all the options except Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain had been ruled out, and it seemed the player would only decide between the French and the Spanish champions.
Now, however, it seems the Blaugrana have lost the battle. De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola has apparently informed them that his answer was “no”. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu subsequently contacted the player himself – only to hear him back his agent’s stance up.
Therefore, it would appear that the Dutch sensation won’t be joining his friend Frenkie de Jong at the Camp Nou, and that the French capital is his likeliest destination this summer.
