As revealed by the club on social media, AS Saint-Etienne defender Mathieu Debuchy has signed an extension on his contract with the club, which will keep him there for another three years. Since returning to France at the end of January, Debuchy has experienced a resurgence in form which saw him narrowly miss out on being included in France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad. He’s looked more composed, more confident on the ball, and much more like the player we were expecting to see when he initially joined Arsenal from Newcastle United.
Debuchy got off to a phenomenal start with Saint-Etienne after signing, scoring four goals in 10 league games after not appearing at all in the Premier League for Arsenal since August. He was a big part of the reason why the club wound up finishing in 7th position in Ligue 1, and as they look ahead, they’ll be aiming to continue their surge up the table next season.
