Lille full-back Mathieu Debuchy has revealed that he is highly unlikely to leave the club in the January transfer window.
The France international was on the verge of joining Newcastle in the summer, and he continues to be linked with a move to St James Park.
Les Dogues are reportedly ready to cash in on the highly rated defender, but he admits that a January move seems unlikely.
“I didn’t think about that period so far, but I can’t see me leaving a team in the middle of the season,” Debuchy told reporters.
“I don’t like that winter transfer market. However, you never know what can happen in football.”
The 27-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top right-backs and is heavily tipped to join a big European club at the end of the season.
Debuchy has spent his entire career at Lille, scoring 16 goals in 230 Ligue 1 appearances for the club.
On top of that, Debuchy has earned 13 France caps and started all four games for les Bleus at the 2012 European Championship.
