December 30th: Monday’s Premier League Double – 5/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

With the Premier League officially signing off 2024 on Monday night, we are treated to three showdowns from across England’s elite.

As a struggling Manchester United welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford, title outsides Chelsea will also be seeking an immediate response when they travel to Ipswich.

Ahead of what could be a frantic night of Premier League action, we have taken a look at two of the most appealing betting markets that are available on Monday.

19:45 Ipswich vs Chelsea

Suffering an infamous late collapse at home against local rivals Fulham on Boxing Day as they eventually fell to a 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are seeking an immediate response here. Despite being hit with festive heartbreak last time out, the Blues have received a string of plaudits since Enzo Maresca’s arrival in west London over the summer. Losing just a pair of their first 18 Premier League appearances so far this season and storming their way to a European quarter-final ticket with a 100% record, the former Leicester boss will be excited by his side’s extended success on the road. Claiming an action-packed 4-3 victory against Tottenham earlier in the month, Chelsea have collected 16 points from their last six appearances across all competitions away from Stamford Bridge. Despite their Boxing Day blip in SW6, there is no doubt that Maresca’s camp will be smelling a golden opportunity when they travel to Portman Road on Monday night.

Despite making real history last season as they booked an iconic Premier League return, Ipswich have a real battle on their hands in the race to keep hold of their top-flight status. Despite claiming an essential 2-1 victory away at fellow strugglers Wolves on December 14th, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Kieran McKenna’s side. Falling to a 1-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal over the weekend, Monday’s guests have lost five of their previous six Premier League appearances. Opening December with another 1-0 defeat at home against Crystal Palace, Ipswich are pencilled in as a leading relegation contender in 2025. Sat in the drop zone and drastically struggling to find any kind of stability, McKenna’s men have also failed to muster a single Premier League clean sheet since the middle of September. It should also be noted, the Tractor Boys have lost their last three showdowns at Portman Road by an aggregate score of 7-1.

20:00 Manchester United vs Newcastle

While there might have been plenty of excitement around Old Trafford last month following Ruben Amorim’s arrival, Manchester United are in the midst of what has been a public nightmare. Coming under even more scrutiny last time out as they fell to a 2-0 loss at the hands of relegation scrappers Wolves, the former Sporting Lisbon boss has seen his new squad lose each of their previous three appearances across all competitions by an aggregate score of 9-3. Crashing out of the EFL Cup on December 19th following a remarkable 4-3 defeat away at Tottenham, Monday’s hosts have continued to show some glaring defensive issues. Losing four of their previous five Premier League appearances and still battling it out in the bottom-half of the table, Amorim will once again have a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders here. It should also be noted, the Red Devils have recorded just a sole clean sheet since returning from November’s international break.

Although Newcastle might have found themselves at the heart of a wobble when returning from November’s fortnight interval, the Magpies have come roaring back in some style. Landing down a marker on Boxing Day as they claimed a thumping 3-0 romp at home against Aston Villa, Eddie Howe’s men have skyrocketed their way back into the European chase. Extending on their respective EFL Cup campaign on December 18th as they secured a 3-1 victory against Brentford, Eddie Howe’s men find the mood in their camp at a real high. Including a 4-0 win away at relegation scrappers Ipswich last week, Newcastle have won each of their previous four domestic appearances across all competitions. Really finding a clinical edge in the final third, the former Bournemouth boss has seen his squad notch 14 goals on their four-match winning run. Looking to move within touching distance of the Champions League spots, Howe’s camp should be relishing a trip to Old Trafford here.
