19:30 Newcastle vs Liverpool

Embarking on what has been a sensational rise since Arne Slot’s arrival at Anfield over the summer, Liverpool are enjoying what has become a real fairytale. Laying down yet another heavyweight marker earlier in the week as they claimed a 2-0 victory against defending champions Manchester City, the former Feyenoord boss finds the mood in his camp at a red-hot high. Likewise, the only club that can boast a 100% start to their Champions League record, the Reds have also continued to breeze past many of Europe’s elite. Collecting another 2-0 win against Spanish icons Real Madrid last week, Wednesday’s hosts have also lost just one of their first 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season. Really gaining a reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third, Slot’s high-flying squad travel to St. James’ Park on Wednesday night holding a remarkable nine-point buffer over the chasing pack.

Suffering last-gasp heartbreak away at Crystal Palace over the weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate, Eddie Howe finds some real pressure on his shoulders. Marking their return from November’s international break with a shock 2-0 loss at home against West Ham, the former Bournemouth boss is desperately seeking some much-needed stability. Opening the midweek fixtures battling it out in the bottom-half of the table, Wednesday’s hosts have won just a quartet of their previous 11 appearances across all competitions. Facing what will certainly be another monumental challenge here, Howe’s side will be concerned by a nightmare record against the runaway leaders. In fact, the Magpies have lost each of their previous six consecutive Premier League showdowns against Liverpool. It should also be highlighted, Newcastle have lost their last three meetings at St. James’ Park by an aggregate score of 5-1.

20:15 Arsenal vs Manchester United

While Arsenal might have entered November’s international break in the midst of a real wobble, the Gunners have come roaring back in some style. Putting in a dominant display over the weekend as they stormed their way to a 5-2 victory away at local rivals West Ham, Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed a stellar fortnight in north London. Laying down a heavyweight Champions League marker last week as they claimed a 5-1 romp away at Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, Wednesday’s hosts have also gained a reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third. Marking their return from November’s fortnight interval with a routine 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal have won each of their previous three appearances across all competitions by an aggregate score of 13-3. Desperate to make up some ground in the Premier League title chase, it should also be noted that the Gunners have not suffered a single defeat at the Emirates since the middle of April.

Really getting Ruben Amorim’s tenure underway on Sunday afternoon as they claimed a thumping 4-0 victory at home against Everton, Manchester United will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, although Wednesday’s guests might have turned a corner on either side of November’s international break, the Reds have continued to gain an unwanted reputation for their issues away from Old Trafford. In fact, United have remarkably registered just a single win from any of their first eight away fixtures across all competitions. Despite finding a route into the top-half of the Premier League table, they should also be concerned by a nightmare Premier League record against their historic rivals. Including a 1-0 defeat when they welcomed Arsenal to Old Trafford back on May 12th, they have lost four of their last five top-flight meetings. It should also be noted, Amorim’s new squad have not record a single Premier League win at the Emirates since way back in December 2017.
