Former Barcelona and Chelsea star Deco will sign a one-year contract extension with Fluminese.
The 34-year-old former Portugal international has endured a frustrating 2011, with a spate of injuries severely curtailing his time in the Brazilian side’s first team.
Having recovered full fitness in recent weeks, however, he has become a vital part of Fluminense’s bid to win a second consecutive national title.
According to club vice-president Sandro Lima, this recent good form has led to the midfielder’s wish to stay with the club, and extend the contract.
“I am always happy to talk about Deco. I saw his suffering this season because of the injuries, but I was delighted on Sunday,” Lima told Globoesporte, referring to Deco’s performance in a 4-0 victory over Figueirense.
“We went out to talk after the Figueirense game. On the way back, he told me that he was very happy just to be playing football, the financial side was not a factor.”
“He made sure that he will finish his career in Fluminense,” Lima said.
