Inter Milan manager Stefano Pioli is under the spotlight already with Sunday’s Derbi de Milán having big ramifications.

Fierce rivals AC Milan lock horns with Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A on Sunday evening in their shared San Siro stadium, in a game that could have huge ramifications at the top and the bottom of the division.

Milan could go second and within two points of leaders Juventus with a win, potentially leaving Inter closer to the relegation zone than their rivals in the table, but who will take the bragging rights?

Milan the favourites given recent form

AC Milan are currently third in the Italian Serie A table with 25 points from 12 games this season, coming off the back of five wins from their last six ahead of Sunday’s clash. The Rossoneri’s form at the San Siro has been formidable too, boasting four consecutive wins at home and keeping three clean sheets.

Since September’s defeat at the San Siro to Udinese, AC Milan have enjoyed a perfect record at home in the league but Inter have picked up their own form in their own backyard which should make for a more competitive clash this weekend.

Ninth in the league with 17 points, Inter have won as many games as they’ve lost this season but are coming off the back of two wins from three. Nevertheless, Milan are the side in better shape overall and will be hoping to make their superiority count.

Contrasting consequences depending on outcome

AC Milan are enjoying a bright start to the season and could go second in the table this weekend with win over Inter. The Rossoneri play after leaders Juventus and runners-up AS Roma, meaning they could take advantage should the aforementioned duo fall short. Milan could narrow the deficit to Juve to two points after 13 games this weekend.

Inter, however, could find themselves in a precarious position if they come unstuck. The Nerazzurri risk being closer to the relegation zone than to Milan in the Serie A table if they lose this weekend, providing 18th-placed Pescara come out on top in their respective outing.

It would be a big insult for a club the size of Inter to be thinking about the relegation zone, let alone having such a big deficit to make up on their rivals this early into the campaign but the Nerazzurri just can’t build up any momentum. AC Milan are 9/5 to win against Inter Milan on Sunday evening, but who will come out on top?
