Spanish champions Real Madrid are set to open talks to bring Villarreal’s 21-year-old Martin Cáceres to the Spanish capital.
Last week sporting director, Pedja Mijatovic, met with the player’s agent to discuss terms.
Though the young defender might favor a move to the Spanish champions, it might be difficult to convince Villarreal to let go of their Uruguay ace. The club is currently reshuffling their defense for next season and former Arsenal defender, Pascal Cygan, is likely to be the fist defender to depart the club.
In addition, having qualified for next season’s Champions League, the club is financially secure for now and would only have to sell if they received an offer that was simply too good to refuse.
Cáceres signed a five-year contract on a free transfer from Uruguayan football club Defensor Sporting in 2007. Cáceres spent this season at Recreativo de Huelva on loan.
