(GSM) – Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe is confident that he will make a quick fire return from a hamstring injury sustained in training earlier this week.
Spurs boss harry Redknapp has suggested that Defoe could be out for several weeks, but the 27-year-old England international expects to be back much sooner than that.
Spur striker said, “I think I’ll be all right in around ten days. It’s not as major as people think.”
Defoe continued, “But because I pulled up in training you have to be careful like the manager says. He’s absolutely right, you have to monitor these things.”
“I don’t get injured that often and normally the type of injury I have takes around 17 days to get recover from. But I think I should be okay before that,” he explained.
He believed that he would recover soon, “I pulled up with a sharp pain in training on Thursday and went for a scan which showed I’ve got a grade two tear. Normally it’s two weeks, but I think I’ll be all right.”
Defoe, who has 23 goals in all competitions and looks a certainty to go to the World Cup with England this summer.
The injury to Defoe could have implications beyond this weekend’s difficult trip to Stoke in the Premier League, with the north London derby coming up in a few weeks’ time.
Spurs host Arsenal at White Hart Lane in three weeks, meaning Defoe faces a race against time to be fit for the visit of his side’s hated rivals.
