Defoe linked with MLS switch

Toronto FC are readying a bid for Tottenham star Jermain Defoe, the Toronto Sun has revealed.

The MLS side are expected to make significant transfer funds available for the upcoming off-season, with a number of high-profile players expected to arrive at the club.

According to Toronto Sun, Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is the number one name on club’s hit-list.

Toronto FC have been largely struggling up front this term, netting just 30 times in 34 league matches and no wonder signing a proven goalscorer is their top priority.

Jermain Defoe is growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of opportunities at White Hart Lane and he could be prepared to consider a move to the MLS.

Meanwhile, Toronto FC are also planning an ambitious bid for Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard, who had previously been linked to LA Galaxy.

The Canadian side already have several players with Premier League experience in their ranks, namely Steven Caldwell, Richard Eckersley, Hogan Ephraim and Robbie Earnshaw.
