(GSM) – Tottenham Hotspur star Jermain Defoe has been ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury, club manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed.
Defoe picked up the injury while representing England in the team’s 3-1 victory over Switzerland on Tuesday.
This comes as a huge blow as Spurs’ Michael Dawson also suffered a knee injury while playing on international duty against Bulgaria and will be out for eight weeks.
“Even if it’s a bad sprain, you’re still talking about six weeks or so, because it’s a nasty one,” Redknapp said.
The injury means that Defoe will miss many of his club’s Champions League group games which begin with a tight match at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on Tuesday.
