Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque expressed his delight on Friday at the form shown by the European champions in a pre-World Cup training camp in Austria, capped by a 1-0 win over South Korea.
“We leave with the sentiment of having accomplished our mission,” Del Bosque told journalists.
The success over World Cup rivals South Korea was more satisfying than their 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia on Saturday, and “was the culmination of an irreproachable training programme. The victory was deserved.”
The Korea game gave much-needed match time to players returning from injury such as Cesc Fabregas, who hadn’t played since March 31.
“He reacted well and achieved some good combinations,” said the Spanish coach, who express his optimism about the recovery of striker Fernando Torres, out with a knee injury since April.
“He is making important progress every day. I hope that he can play at Murcia (against Poland),” said Del Bosque of the final match on June 8 before the squad travels to South Africa.
Spain open their Group H campaign against Switzerland on June 16 before playing Honduras on June 21 and Chile on June 25.
