Del Bosque hints at retirement

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has revealed that he is likely to retire when his contract with the Spanish Football Federation expires.

The World Cup-winning coach was recently linked with Real Madrid as a potential replacement for current trainer Jose Mourinho, but Del Bosque has stressed that he has no intention of returning to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I will not take over at any club when I leave the national team. Not at Real Madrid, and not at any other club either,” Del Bosque said in an interview with Canal Plus.

“You can never say something with 100 percent certainty, but I think that I will just retire when my contract with the Spanish FA runs out.”

“The people who claimed that I was stalling talks about a new deal with the FA because I was a candidate at Madrid are completely wrong.”

Del Bosque took over from Luis Aragones as Spain coach after Euro 2008 and guided them to World Cup glory in South Africa in 2010.

He has a contract until after this year’s European Championship.
