Sampdoria on Monday announced the departure of team coach Luigi Del Neri, raising speculation the Italian will soon take over at fallen Serie A giants Juventus.
Genoa-based Sampdoria achieved the significant feat of finishing fourth in Serie A on Sunday, which is synonymous with a coveted place in the Champions League’s third qualifying round.
According to local reports the 59-year-old Del Neri will become Juventus’s new coach either on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The contract of Juventus’s interim coach Alberto Zaccheroni, who was brought in as caretaker following the sacking of Ciro Ferrara in January, was not extended by the Turin club.
Juventus could only finish seventh in the table, thus claiming the third and final spot for next season’s Europa League.
