A report from Talk Sport suggests that Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero is ready to make his move to Sydney FC, despite him being linked with Liverpool.
The former Juventus man left the Serie A champions in the summer but insists that even at 37-years-old, he is in great shape to carry on playing and is now edging close to a move to Australia. It is sure to be one of the biggest moves in A-League history.
It had been thought that English Premier League side Liverpool were also keen on the Italian with Brendan Rodger being an apparent admirer of the playmaker.
There is no doubt that he would have been interested in a move to Anfield, but is seems as though the owners at the club are not willing to pay his wage demands, due to his age.
Del Piero is set to sign for Sydney on Wednesday, but as we know in football – anything can still happen and he could still be joining another club.
With the transfer window now closed of course, many teams are weighing up the free agent market, especially if they did not manage to secure the services of their respective targets on deadline day.
