Bastian Schweinsteiger said he was disappointed not to be fit for Bayern Munich’s final two games before the winter break.
The German international has been out of action since breaking his collarbone in Bayern’s Champions League victory over Napoli on November 2.
Schweinsteiger had hoped to return in time for last weekend’s Bundesliga clash with Cologne or, at the very least, Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal clash with Bochum.
However, the midfielder played no part in either encounter, much to his frustration.
“Of course I was sad and a little disappointed because for three weeks I’ve worked every day to make a comeback this year,” Schweinsteiger told DAPD.
“Many have said: ‘There are only two games’. But, for me, a quick comeback would have been important so I could go into the holiday with better morale.”
Schweinsteiger, who has been capped 90 times by his country, is now expected to make his eagerly-awaited return to first-team action against Borussia Moenchengladbach on January 20.
