Dele Alli to consider Spurs future after Carabao Cup omission

Dele Alli was left out of the Tottenham Hotspur matchday squad which faced Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, and according to The Times, it has prompted him to consider the options for leaving the club.

Spurs have so far played six competitive games this season and Alli was left out of the squad for four of them, starting the Premier League clash against Everton in which he was replaced at halftime, and the Europa League qualifier against Shkendija where he was replaced after an hour. But the omission from the Chelsea clash seems to have been the final straw.

The 24-year old midfielder is now apparently torn over how he should resolve the current situation. Head coach Jose Mourinho and the club’s hierarchy are not of one mind either. The club want him to stay and fight for his place with chairman Daniel Levy worried about his current market value. Alli was perhaps worth between £80-90 million a few years ago, but due to his somewhat poorer recent form coupled with the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the club could perhaps expect half that amount at the moment. His former club MK Dons would also be due a certain amount through a sell-on clause.

Mourinho wants him out.
