Juventus manager Luigi Delneri believes his side can re-energise their season with a win at Lecce on Sunday.
The Stadio Delle Alpi outfit lie sixth in the Serie A table and failed to make it past the group stage in the Europa League despite not losing a match in continental competitions.
But recent victories against Cagliari and reigning Serie A champion Inter Milan have shown the quality within Juventus’ squad, and Delneri believes a win for his side can really lift the confidence at the club.
“At this moment, we must take nothing for granted,” Delneri said.
“Lecce will be motivated and eager to do well, so it’s an important turning point in the season for Juventus. We must have the same motivation that we had against Inter.”
“Lecce create many scoring opportunities, so we’ve got to get it into our heads that we should go there with concentration and great respect.”
“We are thinking of winning our games, then we’ll see what the other sides are doing. The other clubs always focus on catching up with those ahead of them, so why can’t we?”
The January transfer window signing of Alessandro Matri from Cagliari has helped Juventus’ fortunes, with the striker scoring three in three matches for his new club, taking his season tally to 14.
Delneri suggested the new signing would again start and hopes he can challenge for the league’s golden boot, with Matri likely to play with Luca Toni up front, meaning club captain Alessandro Del Piero will start on the bench.
“I hope Matri can continue to fight for the Capocannoniere title, as that would mean we are doing well. In any case, I never rely on a single player, but on the team.”
