Ousmane Dembele has been informed he has to leave Barcelona immediately, according to club director Mateu Alemany.
“It’s clear that Dembele does NOT want to continue with Barcelona,” Alemany said, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano. “He doesn’t want to be part of our project.”
As it stands at the moment, Dembele is set to run out of contract at the end of the season. The talks between the winger’s representatives and the club have been tense from the start, with Dembele obviously frustrated that Barcelona were refusing to meet his wage demands due to an apparent lack of funds, while they were preparing a move for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The 24-year-old arrived to Camp Nou as a big talent from Dortmund in 2017, for a reported fee of over €100 million. He was supposed to replace Neymar in the team, after the Brazilian made his way to Paris Saint-Germain that summer, but his impact has been seen as weak, mostly due to injuries and inconsistencies.
In all competitions, Dembele has scored 31 goals and produced 23 assists in 129 matches for Barcelona in all competitions. It seems those numbers will be his final tally at the Catalan club.
