Demichelis sticking with Bayern Munich

Argentina’s out-of-favour international defender Martin Demichelis announced on Monday he will be sticking with Bayern Munich for the 2010-2011 season.

“I’m staying at Bayern Munich and I’m going to fight with pride and ambition,” said Demichelis, who is hoping to regain his first-team place after falling out with Dutch coach Louis van Gaal.

The 29-year-old found himself surplus to requirements during the first game of the season when Bayern beat Wolfsburg 2-1 as he discovered just before kick-off he had lost his place to Germany’s rising star Holger Badstuber.

He boycotted the game in protest and later said he wanted a transfer out of Munich before the transfer window closes on Tuesday at midnight.

Demichelis, who played in last season’s Champions League final defeat by Inter Milan, was also left out of Bayern’s squad for Friday night’s shock 2-0 defeat at Kaiserslautern as Munich’s defence was exposed by two second-half goals which left van Gaal fuming.

Having played in the Argentina team which lost to Germany in the quarter-final at last month’s World Cup, several European clubs including Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint Germain had been interested in signing him but the French club were put off by the 10million euros transfer fee.
