ADO Den Haag have announced the sacking of head coach Maurice Steijn following a run of poor results.
The men from The Hague currently sit bottom of the Eredivisie, two points adrift of safety, after five defeats in their last six league matches.
Steijn – a former player with the club – worked his way through the ranks after starting out as Den Haag youth coach.
The 40-year-old was named as successor to John van den Brom in the 2011 close-season, before guiding the club to 15th- and ninth-place finishes in the Dutch top flight.
A statement on Den Haag’s official website read: “The continuous run of poor results made an immediate departure inevitable.”
Assistant Henk Fraser has been placed in temporary charge of team affairs, beginning with Friday’s trip to second-placed Vitesse.
