According to Calciomercato, Napoli will not be exercising the option to turn the loan deal of Aston Villa’s Leander Dendoncker into a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old came to Villa Park from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2022 and spent 18 months there. At the request of Walter Mazzarri, the head coach at the time, the Serie A champions took him to Naples on a temporary basis with an option to buy at the end of the season.
However, Mazzarri was sacked about a month later and replaced by Francesco Calzona. Since then, Dendoncker has only played 10 minutes for Napoli, coming off the bench towards the end of their 6-1 triumph away to Sassuolo.
The price at which Napoli can make the Belgian midfielder their player on a permanent basis apparently stands at €10 million, and they obviously deem that amount too much for a player who simply isn’t making desired impact.
