Derby sign Darren Bent on loan from Villa; Kimmich to Bayern

Derby County have completed the signing of Aston Villa striker Darren Bent on loan for the rest of the season.

Derby County have completed the signing of Aston Villa striker Darren Bent on loan for the rest of the season.

Bent, who joined Villa from Sunderland for £18 million in January 2011, has scored over 100 goals in the English Premier League, but will spend the second half of 2014/15 in the Championship.

The 30-year-old had spent the last two months on loan at Championship side Bright, where he bagged two goals in five league appearances for the club.

“We are delighted to welcome Darren Bent to Derby County for the rest of the season,” said Rams boss Steve McClaren.

“I’ve worked with him in the past and he brings significant Premier League and international experience with him.

“He adds to our already excellent attacking options. Darren has scored goals wherever he has been during his career and we believe he can contribute on the field for us.

“We’re braced for an exciting second half of the season, which is always an important stage in any campaign, and we’ve got plenty of big matches coming up for everyone to look forward to – and Darren certainly brings big game experience with him.”

Bent will join his new team-mates on Monday, and is expected to make his club debut against Ipswich Town at Portman Road next Saturday.

Kimmich to Bayern

Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Joshua Kimmich from Bundesliga strugglers VfB Stuttgart for an undisclosed fee.

The Germany Under-21 international has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena, and will join the Bavarian giants when his current loan spell at 2. Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig expires at the end of the season.

Kimmich, 19, never played for Stuttgart, but was reportedly one of Pep Guardiola top transfer targets for the 2015/16 campaign.

Gerrard to leave Liverpool in the summer

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

According to Sky Sports, Gerrard, who has confirmed he will not ‘carry on’ in England’s top-flight, is currently in talks with the LA Galaxy, New York City FC, and New York Red Bulls over a potential move to MLS.

“This has been the toughest decision of my life and one which both me and my family have agonised over for a good deal of time,” said Gerrard.

“I am making the announcement now so that the manager and the team are not distracted by stories or speculation about my future.

“Liverpool Football Club has been such a huge part of all our lives for so long and saying goodbye is going to be difficult, but I feel it’s something that’s in the best interests of all involved, including my family and the club itself.

“I’m going to carry on playing and although I can’t confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will be somewhere that means I won’t be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool – that is something I could never contemplate.”

Where will Gerrard ply his trade in 2015/16?
