Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Derry City win
Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport
Looking to continue on what has been an eye-catching purple patch since opening September, Derry City will welcome St. Patrick’s to Londonderry on Friday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while Derry would have rightfully been disappointed to have only picked up a point against the Finn Harps over the weekend, Declan Devine’s men have managed to find their feet after a tricky start to the New Year. With their sights now set on trying to find a route into the top half of the Premier Division table, the Candystripes managed to book their spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s FAI Cup thanks to a 2-0 win away at Drogheda last month. With a 2-1 defeat against runaway leaders Shamrock their only top-flight defeat since July 31st, Derry will also be boosted by their most recent meeting against Friday’s guests. Picking up a deserved 2-0 win when they made the trip to Richmond Park last month, Devine’s side should be confident of cashing in on their recent purple patch.
As for the visitors, while Derry might have managed to make some clear alterations over the past month, the same cannot be said for a St. Patrick’s side low on both form and confidence. Only managing to collect their own point against a 10-man Sligo Rovers on home soil over the weekend, they have now failed to win any of their last five appearances on the spin. Along with shockingly crashing out of the FAI Cup at the hands of the Finn Harps thanks to a 1-0 loss last month, Stephen O’Donnell’s men also have a real reputation for their rather glaring issues in front of goal. Once again drawing yet another blank in Dublin last time out, St. Patrick’s have now failed to record a single strike in any of their last five appearances and have gone over 500 minutes without putting the ball in the net.
Bet: Derry City 4/6 to beat St. Patrick’s Athletic in Friday’s Irish Premier Division showdown @ 888sport
