Marseille coach Didier Deschamps on Thursday questioned the French league’s decision to summon Souleymane Diawara to a disciplinary hearing over his clash with Paris Saint-Germain’s Nene.
Diawara appeared to stamp on Brazilian winger Nene towards the end of Marseille’s 2-1 defeat in a French first division match in Paris on Sunday, for which he received a yellow card.
The incident was subsequently reviewed by the video panel of France’s Professional Football League (LFP), who have ordered the Senegalese centre-back to attend a hearing on December 2.
He stands to receive a four-match ban for his actions.
“The criteria for selecting and assessing these incidents are questionable,” Deschamps said.
“From what I know, if the referee penalised him, it’s because he saw it. And if he saw it, he saw it! If he didn’t see it, it’s something else… The procedure must be progressive.”
Diawara admitted on Wednesday that he had committed “an act of frustration that I shouldn’t have done”.
