Goalkeeper Victor Valdes said Barcelona’s destiny is in their own hands as they look to sew up the La Liga title.
Fresh from a victory over city rivals Espanyol, Barcelona face Levante on Wednesday knowing just one point would secure them their third consecutive domestic title.
“We need a point and it is down to us. This is the important thing. The important thing is to win this title for ourselves, and it will be well deserved given how we have played during this season,” Valdes said.
The shot-stopper also dismissed any suggestion that La Liga was not competitive after another season dominated by Barca and Real Madrid.
“For the past three years the league has been won with a lot of points. The first and second teams are doing very well,” Valdes said.
“The Spanish league is the most competitive in the world. We give everything we can to try and win the title and hope that others do the same and we win it.”
“All that has happened this year gives more credibility to the league. It’s been intense, partly because of returning from the World Cup and not having a full pre-season. I think that we have recovered well, picked up the pace quickly and have a title that deserves a lot of respect.”
