Determined Roma impress Montella

Roma coach Vincenzo Montella praised his team’s determination after they secured a late 3-2 win over Bari in the Serie A on Sunday.

Francesco Totti struck a double but it was a 94th minute winner from substitute Aleandro Rosi that helped Roma collect three points and remain in sixth place on the table.

Montella said the performance, which included going behind twice and having two men sent off, was indicative of their season.

“The only positive apart from the result was our determination to get there,” Montella said.

“We didn’t play well in either half. This match was our season in a microcosm, as we’re capable of just about anything and sometimes overcome difficult situations with our determination.”

“However, there’s little to be proud of when we’re so disorganised and there is a lot of work to do.”

Midfielder Daniele De Rossi was sent off for using his elbow early in the second half, while Simone Perrotta also saw red for an incident behind the play late in the clash.

Montella said he felt De Rossi’s red was not as serious as it looked and was hopeful his team would deny AC Milan the title by claiming a win on Saturday.

The club have not ruled out the appealing the sending off of Perrotta after his clash with Bari’s Andrea Masiello.

“Perhaps we will ask for the incident to be reviewed,” director general Gian Paolo Montali said.

“I hope that Perrotta is not banned. It wasn’t a violent gesture and the Bari player did overreact a little.”
