Di Livio tips Juve for European glory

Former Juventus midfielder Angelo Di Livio believes his old club can go all the way in the Champions League this season.

Di Livio was a member of the last Juve team to win the European Cup in 1996 and he thinks the time has come for them to lift the famous trophy once again.

Having defeated Celtic in round of 16, Juve were drawn against runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

“I think the time is ripe to win back the cup with the big ears,” Di Livio was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.

“At the beginning of the (Antonio) Conte era there was scepticism, but they have done very well and are now among the favourites.

“But it was good that they avoided Barcelona in the quarter-finals, they are an almost perfect team. (The) Bianconeri are also very good and they will win at least win the Serie A barring any major drop off.

Di Livio, who now works as a football commentator, reflected on his 1996 continental success with fondness.

“I often think back to that victory,” he said, referring to Juve’s triumph over Ajax.

“A year later came the Intercontinental (Cup) as well. (Gianluca) Vialli I remember was crying like a child and I was jumping around mad with a bandana on my head. It felt like a dream but it was all true.”
