Di Matteo: West Brom football ´fantastic´

West Bromwich manager Roberto Di Matteo has praised his players for their 4-1 win over Everton, describing the Baggies’ football as ‘fantastic’.

West Brom took three crucial points in the battle against relegation against fellow strugglers Everton at Goodison Park courtesy of strikes to Paul Scharner, Chris Brunt, Somen Tchoyi and a Sylvain Distin own-goal, with Tim Cahill’s eighth goal of the season proving a mere consolation for the home side.

The win propels West Brom to 11th on the table after Saturday’s English Premier League action, widening the gap to the dreaded drop zone to five points.

“We played fantastic football today, got some great goals and it was a very entertaining game too,” Di Matteo told Sky Sports.

“We deserved to go ahead. We were always very good going forward.”

“We picked the players up at half-time. It’s a difficult ground to come, we hadn’t won here for 31 years so we knew it wasn’t going to be easy.”

“In the second half we just kept going and we stuck to our game plan, (and) fortunately we scored the third goal too.”

“The third goal was a very good goal, the fourth goal ended the game really.”

Di Matteo was asked for his opinion on the game’s two dismissals, with the home sid’se captain Mikel Arteta shown a straight red for a stamp on Gonzalo Jara and West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu receiving two yellow cards in as many minutes in the clash’s latter stages.

“I think everybody saw he (Arteta) stepped on our player. In terms of the second yellow card for our player I think it was a very innocuous challenge,” he said.

“If you give yellow cards for those ones then you are probably going to get 20 yellow cards in a game.”
