Franco Di Santo is excited to be part of the Werder Bremen “project” after three years with Wigan Athletic.
The 24-year-old finalised the switch to Bremen on a three-year deal on Wednesday after being released by the Championship side in May following their relegation from the Premier League after eight years.
The Argentina international striker is relishing starting his first campaign in the Bundesliga after spending the bulk of his career in England.
“The truth is I am very happy to be at a club as big as Bremen, everyone knows this club is recognized in the world, and has a lot of history. And as I said before, I am very proud to be here,” he said.
“I know it’s one of the big clubs in Germany, and for that reason I decided to come to a club like that.
“I know there’s a good project, which is going slowly, and returning Bremen to what it once was, and getting to as high as possible in the league.
“I know that great players have played here, and that led me to come over here. Among them, a friend, Claudio Pizarro.”
The forward – who scored 13 goals in just under 100 appearances for Wigan – will hope to be in contention when Bremen look to make it two wins out of two in the Bundesliga against Augsburg on Saturday.
