Di Stefano fires Mourinho criticism

Real Madrid honorary president Alfredo di Stefano believes Jose Mourinho’s side is inferior to arch rivals Barcelona and lacks personality.

In a stunning admission ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey final at the Mestalla in Valencia – the second of four meetings between the La Liga powerhouses over a 14-day period – Di Stefano revealed he considered Barcelona a far better side than the Real one under the guidance of Mourinho.

The legendary Argentine’s comments centered largely around the Portuguese boss’ approach in Sunday’s La Liga meeting between the two clubs at the Bernabeu, which finished 1-1.

Mourinho opted for a defensive line-up against the reigning league champions, playing central defender Pepe as a holding midfielder in a bid to limit the effectiveness of Barca’s star-studded midfield.

The ploy worked to a degree, with Real scoring an 82nd-minute equaliser despite playing much of the second half with ten men after Raul Albiol’s red card.

While experts have claimed the result has given Real confidence ahead of the Copa del Rey final and the two legs of the Champions League semi-final tie, the tactics clearly did not sit well with Di Stefano.

“The football Barcelona played at the Bernabeu was simply brilliant. Their superiority was clear,” the 84-year-old told Sport.es.

“Madrid played against a Barcelona side who dominated throughout the whole game. It’s clear Barca are superior to Madrid, who are a team with no personality.”

“Their approach was clearly wrong.”

Mournho is a crap boring egotist who only cares about himse;f and not the teams he leaves after nearly bankrupting them. Anyone can manage big teams like that and win trophies.

I can’t seems to understand a great side as RM. Tons of brilliants and expensive players at home . JM, starts 7 defensive players then expect only CR to beat Barca with no help of front. That proved how fantastic barca are. I expected RM after spending closed to $4M in players to showed up when they play Barca. That defensive tactic for me is killing the game…not worth spending the money

Give Di Stefano some respect will you, the guy is a footballing legend, specifically a Real legend.

He’s also right, Real has a proud history of playing fantastic football, something Di Stefano was a part of. It must be sad for him to see the team playing in such an unattractive manner. I fully understand his criticism.

it’s such a shame that it came from di stefano being the honorary president and made such harsh and demoting comment towards the coach. He should have supported Jose, but then again, it’s his opinion, but he should have shut his mouth if he doesnt have anything good to say. I remember Jose once said that he is a nobody in Real Madrid, well, now he is a “somebody” in Real being the first coach to ever won them their Copa Del Rey since 1993.

I think what de stefeno said is right. real madrid game style have changed. real is not a defensive side but morinho has changed all that. in football u resort to defense when u feel ur opponent are better dan u n then u hope for draw. thats wat morihno did. gud de stefeno

Probably that the man has lost touch with life,he should either commend mourinho or just hold peace. Maybe he prefers barca beating real once again.
