Lazio defender Modibo Diakite is hoping to reach an agreement with Napoli, the player’s representative has revealed.
Diakite, who has been frozen out of the first team set-up after refusing to sign a contract extension, is set to leave Stadio Olimpico on a free transfer at the end of the season.
He has been linked with Liverpool, Juventus and a number of Russian clubs, but the Frenchman looks set to agree a summer deal with Napoli.
“Diakite? We would be happy if the talks go ahead with Napoli,” agent Ulisse Savini told Radio Crc.
“It’s true that we have received relevant offers from Russia, important clubs, but the boy’s desire is to remain in Europe, preferably Italy.”
Everything suggests that Diakite will soon be signing a long-term deal at Stadio San Paolo, where he will replace Inter-bound Hugo Campagnaro.
The 25-year-old arrived to Lazio from Pescara back in 2006 and has since made 65 Serie A appearances for the Biancocelesti.
He has failed to make a single league appearance this season, and hasn’t been in a match squad since the beginning of January.
