Former Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra is currently training with Lyon and could sign for les Gones as a free agent, France Football reports.
The Malian midfielder spent five years at Santiago Bernabeu following a €26 million switch from Lyon, but he never quite managed to justify the transfer fee.
Diarra was farmed out on loan to Monaco in January, but he couldn’t prevent the French giants from getting relegated to Ligue 2.
The 30-year-old’s contract with Real Madrid has expired in the meantime and he is now free to open talks with interested clubs.
Lyon have announced on their official website that the Malian is training with the reserve side, while France Football reports that the player is negotiating a return to les Gones.
Mahamadou Diarra spent four very successful years at Gerland before moving to Real Madrid in 2006 and he is now looking to kick-start his career in the familiar surroundings.
