Spanish striker Diego Costa is one step closer to returning to Atletico Madrid, daily newspaper AS has suggested.
The Chelsea forward has emerged as a top target for los Colchoneros and Diego Simeone believes the time is right to bring the 27-year-old back to Estadio Vicente Calderon.
The latest reports suggest that Costa is also keen on moving back to Atletico Madrid and he has now informed Roman Abramovich and Antonio Conte of his desire.
The Spain international has no intention of releasing a public statement of his plans, but he does hope the Blues will allow him to return to Spain.
Despite recruiting Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will only allow Costa to leave if he signs another quality centre forward.
Diego Costa has done pretty well since arriving at Stamford Bridge, scoring 32 goals in 54 Premier League appearances for the Blues.
