It has not been a year since Diego Simeone took over the reigns at CA River Plate. Earlier today he announced his resignation.

The announcement comes in the wake of his club’s elimination from the Copa Nissan Sudamericana against CD Chivas Guadalajara from Mexico on Thursday night. On top of that a string of bad results in the domestic Primera Division see them in twentieth and last place in the league.

He will be in charge for the last time when his team plays Huracan at home this weekend.

The thirty eight year old felt that the string of poor results and one win out of thirteen in the Primera Division, the worst start in the club’s history, was reason enough to resign from the job.
