Prva HNL champions Dinamo Zagreb have completed the signing of Manchester United forward Angelo Henriquez on a season-long deal.
The Chile international, 20, impressed while on loan at Liga Adelante side Real Zaragoza last term but is currently surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Since arriving from Universidad de Chile in 2012, Henriquez has not made a single first-team appearance for United.
“I am happy with my arrival at Dinamo, with whom I want to do good things,” Henriquez said.
“I have a lot of motivation and I want to prove myself and I believe Dinamo is a great club for it.”
Henriquez may still have a future at United but manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly told seven first-team players — Anderson, Chicharito Hernandez, Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Wilfried Zaha and Will Keane — they can leave the club this summer.
Meanwhile, LVG has talked up a potential move for Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria, who would reportedly cost the club a fee of around £50 million.
“Now we have five No 9s and four No 10s and we don’t have wingers to play attacking width, not at the highest level, of Ronaldo or Di Maria or something like that,” Van Gaal said. “So I have to play also in another way and you have seen that.
“It’s a strategy of Manchester United to buy players who are on the way up and getting better, but I only buy when I think we need to.”
Ameobi joins Turkish Second Division side
Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor have signed former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi to a one-year deal.
Ameobi, 32, arrives via free transfer following his exit from St James’ Park.
The Nigeria international spent 14 years on Tyneside and his brother Sammy, 22, still plies his trade in the Northeast.
“We want to establish an ambitious team in the league this season, and a strong team continues to strengthen by adding players,” read a statement on Gaziantep’s official website.
“We have therefore tied Nigerian striker Shola Ameobi – from one of the strongest teams in England, Newcastle United – to us for one year.”
Ameobi, who bagged 53 goals in 312 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies, will hope to lead Gaziantep to Turkey’s top-flight this season.
But hope and reality do not always match up. Gaziantep finished in 14th-place in the PTT 1. Lig table last season and Ameobi’s best days are certainly behind him.
Do not expect a storybook ending to Ameobi’s 12-month spell in Antep.
