Arsenal defender Kostas Mavropanos has rejoined VfB Stuttgart on loan for the 2021-22 season after spending the previous campaign there, the two clubs have officially confirmed.
The 23-year-old Greek made a total of 22 appearances for the Bundesliga side in 2020-21. Stuttgart will reportedly pay £500,000 as a loan fee for the upcoming season, and if they remain in the German top flight at the end of it, they will be obligated to make the deal permanent for £3 million and give Mavropanos a three-year contract, with £1.5m to come in potential add-ons and a sell-on clause inserted in the deal. If they are relegated, the obligation will become an option which they can choose to trigger, or not.
Since joining the Gunners from Greek side PAS Giannina in 2017, Mavropanos has made only eight appearances for his parent club in all competitions. Before he joined Stuttgart on his first loan there, he also had a temporary spell with Nurnberg.
