Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has confirmed that El-Hadji Diouf has been fined two weeks’ wages after his red card against Brighton.

The Senegal international was dismissed for the first time since joining the Yorkshire club moments after equalising from the penalty spot as he made an offensive gesture towards the travelling fans.

Referee Graham Scott did not take kindly to the behaviour of the forward in the 74th minute and immediately dismissed him, leaving Leeds with just nine players on the pitch for the remainder of the game that they eventually lost 2-1.

A very unimpressed McDermott confirmed that Diouf had been fined by the club for his behaviour, but insisted he was still part of his plans for the new season.

“I’ve spoken to El-Hadji Diouf and he has apologised regarding the sending off on Saturday,” he told the club’s official website.

“He has accepted the sending off and the club have fined him two weeks’ wages which is the maximum we can do.

“I’ve had a good conversation with Dioufy regarding the future, he is fully committed for what is to come next season.”

Diouf has a contract until the end of next season at Elland Road but his three-match ban means he will miss the first two matches.
