Club Brugge KV have signed Moroccan-born midfielder Nabil Dirar from Eerste Klasse rivals KVC Westerlo as they look forward to playing UEFA Cup football in 2008/09.
The 22-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the side who finished third in Belgium this season, having decided against a move to Dutch side AFC Ajax. “Ajax were also interested, but I did not want to make the mistake of wearing out my shorts by sitting on the bench at a top club,” he said. Born in Casablanca, Dirar scored twice in 24 matches this season, and once in 33 games in 2006/07.
