Dislocated finger for Szczesny

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny dislocated a finger during Arsenal’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

Szczesny, 20, was forced off just 19 minutes into the Champions League round-of-16 second leg at the Camp Nou.

The Pole was in some discomfort after making an awkward save from Dani Alves’ long-range effort, and had to be replaced soon afterwards by Spaniard Manuel Almunia.

Arsenal went on to lose 3-1 in the match and 4-3 on aggregate.

French manager Wenger confirmed that Szczesny would join compatriot Lukasz Fabianski – out for the season with a shoulder injury – on the sidelines, leaving Almunia as Arsenal’s only fit senior goalkeeper.

“It’s a dislocated finger,” Wenger said.

“We have to check the tendon to see how much treatment it will need. We don’t know yet.”

Italian Vito Mannone, who is on loan at Championship Hull, has been suffering from a thigh injury, meaning Wenger may be forced to sign a goalkeeper via an emergency loan as cover.
