Everton boss Roberto Martinez has hinted that veteran defender Sylvain Distin will be offered a new contract at the club.
The 35-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but with the player showing no signs of slowing down, he is likely to extend his stay at Goodison Park.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes the Frenchman can continue playing at the highest level for few more years.
“He’s a terrific example of a player who will be here for as long as he wants. When you work with players like him you realise that age is insignificant,” Martinez was quoted as saying in Daily Star.
“Leaders like him are important in the dressing room. I cannot see him not performing.”
Sylvain Distin has long ago established an excellent defensive partnership with Phil Jagielka, and he has been nothing short of impressive this term.
The Frenchman was a key part of the back line that kept three clean sheets in four Premier League matches this term.
While playing for Newcastle, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Everton, Distin has made a total of 398 Premier League appearances and scored 7 goals.
