Filip Djuricic is looking forward to honing his craft at Benfica following his move from Heerenveen on a five-year deal.
The 21-year-old demonstrated his potential in the Eredivisie, putting in a string of excellent performances for Marco van Basten’s side in an attacking-midfield role.
That attracted the attention of Primeira Liga and UEFA Europa League runners-up Benfica, who have several other Serbian players on their books.
Djuricic consulted with compatriots Lazar Markovic, Miralem Sulejmani and Nemanja Matic before finalising his decision, but admitted it was an easy one to make.
“I had no doubts when deciding this move to Benfica,” he said. “This five years will help me a lot in developing my skills.
“The only thing I’m focused on now is my new club.”
Benfica have provided a stage for several world-renowned players to showcase their talents and Djuricic wants to follow in their footsteps.
“I’ve heard a lot about Benfica and their very offensive style, where the number 10 has a key role,” he explained.
“I know the likes of (Pablo) Aimar and Rui Costa, who did that job before, and because of this it was easy to make the decision.
“I know this club has a huge reputation and history and I hope to create my own history.”
