Doncaster Rovers are closing in on the loan signing of Manchester United striker Federico Macheda, the Mirror understands.
The 21 year old has previously attracted interest from clubs in Italy and Spain, though the ambitious Championship club have been keen on persuading him to move to the Keepmoat Stadium.
He attended the sides goalless draw at Huddersfield Town at the weekend, and looks set to join up with Paul Dickov’s men for the remainder of the season.
Macheda broke on to the scene in 2009, where his wonder goal on his debut against Aston Villa saw United reclaim top spot, where they remained for the rest of the season.
However, he started just five league games under previous manager Sir Alex Ferguson, eventually being shipped out on loan first to Sampdoria in 2011 and then to Queens Park Rangers later that year.
The Italy under 21 international made just three substitute appearances for the Premier League champions last season before going on to spent the second half of the campaign on loan with Bundesliga side Stuttgart, where he failed to score in eighteen games.
