Liverpool have completed the signing of Monaco’s Fabinho, the Merseyside club have confirmed via their official website.
This move seemingly came out of nowhere. Fabinho was heavily linked with Liverpool’s greatest rivals Manchester United, but Jürgen Klopp and his superiors actually got the job done in a very surprising turn of events. Merseyside based journalist Melissa Reddy claims the two clubs had been working on the deal behind the scenes for a while as Liverpool looked to avoid others snatching it at the last minute, like Barcelona tried to do last summer with Naby Keita. The transfer has been eventually agreed for a fee in the region of €50million.
The Brazilian defensive midfielder will certainly improve Klopp’s options in the middle of the park. A fantastic tackler and a specialist in moving things from deep, Fabinho will represent significant competition to club captain Jordan Henderson, while Emre Can’s departure now seems more imminent than ever.
