(GSM) – Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has blasted Miguel Veloso and Houssine Kharja, saying that he’d ‘rather have donkeys who run rather than thoroughbred horses who stand still’.
The two players, who signed for the Italian outfit in the summer, have struggled to make an impact at the club and continued their disappointing form during last night’s 3-1 Coppa Italia win over Vicenza.
And Preziosi has warned the players that he may have to ‘make some changes’, apparently pointing to the intention of selling the duo when the transfer window reopens.
“What do I make of Veloso? There are some players who don’t realise what it means to play for Genoa and in January we can make them understand,” slammed Preziosi in the Secolo XIX newspaper.
“It is better to have donkeys who run rather than thoroughbred horses who stand still. We don’t play with horizontal passes and light touches, even if they are internationals.
“People like Luca Toni and Omar Milanetto come off the bench and battle hard to turn the game around.
“Kharja is another one who, along with Veloso, has not found his form and we are struggling in midfield.
“Either they wake up before January or we will make some changes.
“If we play on Sunday the way we did in the first half against Vicenza, then Brescia will batter us,” continued the furious President.
“The players lacked character and we had to go to extra time, risking a really ugly exit from the Coppa. We have to avoid such stupid things.”
