Los Angeles Galaxy and USA forward Landon Donovan was named the 2009 Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player on Thursday.

Donovan, the United States’ all-time leading scorer, helped the Galaxy reach Sunday’s MLS Cup final, the club’s first appearance in the championship match since 2005.

Despite all the accolades he has earned, this is the first time Donovan has garnered the MLS MVP.

Donovan scored 12 goals during the regular season, helping the Galaxy rally for the best record in the Western Conference.

During the playoffs, Donovan scored twice in the Galaxy’s first-round series victory over Los Angeles rivals Chivas USA, and scored a penalty in extra time against Houston in their 2-0 conference final victory last Friday.

Excellent. Donovan won it at last. He is really a top-class player, not just for the U.S. national team and for the Galaxy, but the world over. No one just realizes it yet, except for Americans.

let’s not forget that he also grabbed Beckham by the nuts and told him to get his act together…

Well done Landon – Well done.

    *encore* *encore*

Congrats to De-Ro on TFC too…I think he was awarded either an all-star award, or big-10 award or something…can’t exactly remember right now, but De-Ro’s been a soldier for TFC, he should know his efforts are very much appreciated and admired, he is awesome with fans in the street – i’ve run in to him a couple of times and he’s just a real vibrant, down-to-earth guy that tries to spend a minute with everyone. Keep it up brother and we’ll catch you next season.
