Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga game against Dortmund on Sunday is a must-win affair, the German giants’ president Uli Hoeness has warned.
“We absolutely have to win at Dortmund so we can get back into the championship race,” Hoeness said Friday.
“If not, it will become difficult to make up the difference before Christmas.”
Bayern coach Louis van Gaal expressed his confidence ahead of the clash with Dortmund, who have racked up five consecutive wins in the German league.
“Of course, it’s not good to have such a big gap and it would be better to have three points more than Dortmund but we’re used to being in a position where we have to win,” he said.
Bayern’s 2-1 defeat to Mainz last weekend left the Bavarian club, the losing Champions League finalists of last season who won a German league and cup double, in 9th spot in the Bundesliga with eight points from six games.
